It’s a video I produced of Carolyn’s garden over the past few days. I’m no pro. That will become obvious as soon as you start watching. However, I felt a real need to post something positive of something beautiful. Not only are we facing the difficulties and challenges of multiple myeloma at home as a family, but we watch the news and witness the social restructuring caused by Covid-19, and we see the US facing very difficult times, violent times. We have friends and family in the US and it gives us no pleasure to see that country embroiled in the kind of racist injustice and authoritarianisms that has led to protests and violence. The militarization of the police in the USA (and in Canada) which has been going on since 2001 can only be a sign that preparations are being made to go to war against the very people who pay the taxes that support the police and the increasingly totalitarian American government. It’s a very complicated, dangerous situation. It’s hard to figure out, and harder to predict what will happen next.

So, take a break, relax…

For a few minutes enjoy my amateurish attempt at video production. I made this video in part because the Cumberland Community Forest Society cannot hold a garden tour this year because of Covid-19. Mostly, I wanted to celebrate Carolyn’s artistry in the garden.     1. Thanks, Ed. I have plans for more videos. I hope to get better at them as I go along. I’d like to have Carolyn explain on camera the history of some of the features and plantings on the property. The ponds are especially interesting to explore as are some of the many flower beds. The veggie garden is always a challenge. We just discovered cut worm in the cabbage patch! Carolyn will replant in a different bed. So we should have cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and kohlrabi well into the fall. Thanks for your comment.

    1. Thanks for your comment, anon. Carolyn can and does do it even though she is on some pretty harsh meds for psoriatic arthritis. It helps that we’re both a little crazy.

    1. Thanks for your comment, Linda. It turns out I had more on my plate today that I had anticipated. I was on a Zoom meeting for over 2 hours and a guy came to replace some sections of our fencing today too.
      Over the next couple of days I will definitely take some time to sit and enjoy our garden.

  5. Hi Roger and Carolyn! I am Denise’s sister. She sent along your garden video knowing I would enjoy it. Your garden is a wonderland! You must have had so much fun creating it over the years.I delighted in your art installations. And that is one plump and confident little squirrel ! Roger do you have any shots with snow to add to your next video? It would be interesting to see how the light plays through the bare trees in winter. I hope it is another enchanting season.     1. Thanks for your comment. I’m so glad you enjoyed my video. Our next videos will include some explanations of how some of the features in the garden were created. The garden is changing every day. It’s hard to keep up. I’d have to have my camera out there all the time to document the changes. Carolyn will be more involved in the next set of videos. We’ll see about snow. I’ll dig around to see what I can find in my photo libraries. It would be fun to make some seasonal contrasts in a video. Thanks for the suggestion.

  6. Caroline and Roger….thank you for sharing your garden with us. You have produced a piece of Paradise. I love all the garden rooms, water features, stone work and sculptures. It must be a healing place to work and rest.

    1. Carolyn has certainly worked hard on the garden and the property in general. I designed the arbour, deck, and porch and had a hand in building them too before I got too sick. I had a lot to do with the ponds and the pavilion too, but Carolyn is the creative energy behind the gardens. She knows her plants!
